Situation critical around SOS Children's Villages in Chilean tremor zone

02/03/2010 - After the heavy earthquake of 27 February, the town of Concepción and other affected areas are in a state of emergency. Co-workers at various SOS facilities, several of which have suffered severe damage to buildings, are also reporting that the situation is very threatening. SOS Children's Villages emergency aid efforts up to speed in Haiti

22/02/2010 - Now providing temporary care for around 290 unaccompanied and orphaned children, the capacity of the SOS Children's Village in Santo is nearly exhausted. On 17 February alone, 126 children from emergency camps were taken in, and 100 more may follow. Currently 66 community centres are supplying over 9,000 children with food, and medical treatment if required, every day. The aim in the coming weeks is to ensure that the basic needs of around 40,000 children are met. More...

Statement of SOS Children's Villages: The needs of unaccompanied children in Haiti

04/02/2010 - At least 20 of the 33 children brought to the SOS Children's Village in Santo in Port-au-Prince for temporary alternative care have at least one living parent. While there is not yet confirmation of how many of these children that were to be taken to the Dominican Republic have parents, guardians or family members to care for them, what is clear is that most of the children are not "orphans". Haiti: SOS Children's Villages takes care of those 33 children who possibly became victims of child trafficking

31/01/2010 - Late evening on 29 January, the Haitian police have arrested ten U.S. citizens caught trying to take 33 children out of Haiti to the Dominican Republic in a suspected illicit adoption scheme, authorities said on Saturday. The suspects could neither show official papers confirming the identity of the children nor any official permission for bringing the children out of the country. On 30 January in the evening, the Haitian Social Ministry entrusted those 33 children (aged three months to twelve years) to the care of SOS Children's Villages. More...

Emergency Distribution of Food
