For the sixth straight year Ottawa based IT company LIXAR has organized Soccer Day, an event that brings together staff from SOS Children’s Villages Canada, LIXAR and their partners for an afternoon of soccer, to raise funds and awareness of SOS Children’s Villages.
The 2011 Soccer Day will recognize and celebrate the long standing partnership between Lixar IT and SOS Children’s Villages. Over the past six years the support generated by this partnership has benefited thousands of children and families, around the world. Lixar and its partners have helped SOS Children’s Villages provide critical support to struggling families in Rustenburg, South Africa; emergency relief to those children and families affected by the earthquake in Haiti, and a loving SOS Family to children orphaned or abandoned in northern Namibia.
On the afternoon of June 23rd more than one hundred players will square off at the new University of Ottawa soccer pitch in a round robin tournament. This event is not only a great way to celebrate our partnership, but it is also a way to engage locally and to act globally in acknowledging the role of sport in a child’s development. Soccer is incredibly popular among children and youth around the world and that fact holds true in the communities and villages that SOS Children’s Villages works in.
For SOS Children’s Villages, soccer is more than just a great game it encourages and supports a healthy lifestyle; it helps to cultivate relationships, and it helps children learn critical life lessons.
In the community of Rustenburg, South Africa, Lixar has provided long term support to the SOS Children’s Villages Family Strengthening Program. This program offers a wide array of assistance to some of the community’s most disadvantaged members, including child-and grandparent-headed families, and those affected by HIV/Aids. Lixar’s support has helped SOS Children’s Villages send hundreds of children to school.
