In Ottawa, Warren Creates, Joan Duguid, and their family joined forces with Mike and Colleen Giunta and their children, to host a fundraising brunch.
The kids did all the cooking and the menu featured recipes from Southern Asia. SOS Children's Villages Canada National Director Boyd McBride, who was on hand to sample the results, pronounced the meal "delicious".
Attended by friends, neighbours, and business colleagues, the "Tsunami Brunch" was a huge success with more that $4,000 dollars raised.
The money came from children's allowances, generous cheques from parents and an auction with items which included VIA rail tickets.
In addition to money raised, two families committed to long-term sponsorship.
An immigration lawyer and commentator on the local CBC, Warren Creates was able to visit an SOS Village on a past trip to Thailand. He came away with a keen desire to raise funds and generate support the work of SOS.
With cheques still coming in from invited guests who were not able to attend the event this neighborhood event is yielding big dividends!
