For every eligible donation by individual Canadians to Canadian registered charities like SOS Children's Villages Canada, Canada will contribute an equivalent amount to the Pakistan Floods Relief Fund.
The equivalent contribution will support continuing humanitarian assistance, early recovery, and reconstruction in Pakistan through projects undertaken by the many organizations and non-governmental organizations responding to the floods in Pakistan.
The Government of Canada will use the Pakistan Floods Relief Fund to provide assistance through Canadian and international humanitarian and development organizations, according to established channels and procedures. The Pakistan Floods Relief Fund is separate from the funds raised by charities and will be administered separately by the Government of Canada.
The Government of Canada will contribute an equivalent amount to the Pakistan Floods Relief Fund for every eligible donation by individual Canadians to Canadian registered charities between August 2 and October 3rd, 2010.
If you have already donated between August 2nd and today, the impact of your donation will be doubled.
The fund will provide effective and accountable financial support to experienced Canadian and international humanitarian and development partner organizations working on humanitarian assistance, early recovery, and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.
The flooding situation in Pakistan continues to worsen. The devastation left by the floods is now compounded by health risks, food shortages, the destruction of infrastructure, and the displacement of people.
For every $20, SOS Children's Villages Pakistan will purchase relief packages locally consisting of;
10 kg Wheat flour
2 kg Lentils
2 kg Rice
2.5 Kg Cooking oil
2 kg Sugar
400 gms Tea
1 Kg Milk powder
800 gms Salt
200 gms Chilly powder
4 bars Washing soap
Candles & matches
In a first phase of emergency efforts, SOS Children's Villages Pakistan will channel the relief packages through a local NGO, the Concerned Citizens Society of Pakistan (CCP).
CCP will distribute to affected families in the northern areas of Pakistan and in the south of the province of Punjab. SOS Pakistan worked with the CCP previously; they collaborated successfully to get emergency aid to where it was needed most after Pakistan suffered a devastating earthquake in 2005.
SOS will also support the Fatima Memorial Hospital System in sending teams of medical personnel to the areas affected by flooding.
