Orphan Run is holding its 6th Annual Charity Run on May 8, 2011

In support of SOS Children’s Villages, Orphan Run is holding its 6th Annual Charity Run on May 8, 2011, 11:00am at Erindale Park, Mississauga.

There is no registration fee to attend the run, however, every participant is expected to fundraise as much as possible and encourage a goal of $20 per person.  If you live in the Toronto area, please join Orphan Run and help care for orphans!

The First, Second, and Third Place runners, will receive awards and gifts and a number of raffle prizes (Gift Cards, Paint ball nation passes, Cadbury prize packs etc) will be given away in the end of the day.

All proceeds from this event as well as all of the other events we’ve had this year will go to SOS Children’s Villages. Specifically, these funds will help provide food, shelter, and education to children in SOS Children’s Villages in Haiti, Russia, Palestinian Territories, Pakistan, and India.

Five years ago, Orphan Run started with a group of students who believed in a cause. There are over one hundred and thirty million orphans in the world today.  Without parents, these children have no one to care for them and no one to address their needs.

That’s where these keen volunteers stepped in.  With your help, Orphan Run, a community club at University of Toronto – Mississauga, is able to better their situation and fulfill their basic needs by providing money which goes towards their shelter, clothing, food, and education.

Orphan Run has raised over $30,000 while successfully bringing together the hearts of different communities, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.  With universities, colleges, high school, and local businesses supporting the initiative, this event has become a testament to the idea that individuals who unite together for a common goal are capable of creating change and making a genuine difference, not only within our own community, but also on a larger global scale.
