Ebola: Medical Update

SOS Children’s Villages is continuing to implement strict precautionary measures to ensure all of our children stay safe.

Our children’s villages in the three worst affected countries in West Africa – Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea – are currently under lock-down. Access in and out of the villages is only permitted under extreme circumstances.

Since the outbreak in Liberia, getting admitted into a healthcare facility has become a major challenge. The SOS Medical Centre in Monrovia, Liberia, is the only major health facility in the city that is still operating 24-hours a day. The Centre recently received a three-month supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE suits), fumigation materials, hand pumps, gloves, and other protective materials.

To further guard-against infection, a ThermoFlash, which reads body temperature without human contact, has been provided to the three SOS Children’s Villages in Guinea. 

All children and staff in SOS Villages have been taught how to prevent Ebola and detect its symptoms. Prevention instructions remain in place and each child undergoes temperature checkups daily. In addition, anti-bacterial hand soap and sanitizer are placed at the entrance of all of SOS Villages and offices.
