SOS Children's Villages in Daegu

The foundation stone of SOS Children's Village Daegu was laid in 1963. The official inauguration took place on 10 May 1965. Daegu is located in the south-east of the country.

The SOS Children's Village is situated on the outskirts of the city, not far from the airport. At first, the location of the SOS Children's Village was a little out of the way, but over the years, more and more people have settled in the surrounding area, and now the SOS Children's Village is well integrated into its neighbourhood.

SOS Children's Village Daegu consists of 13 family houses, the village director's house, the aunts' (family helpers') house, a community house, a home for retired mothers and an administration and service area. There is also a sport's complex and a playground.

The SOS Children's Village runs its own kindergarten, called "Dongchon Kindergarten", which is also open to children from the neighbourhood. All the children attend the local elementary schools and the secondary schools in the city.

There is also an SOS Youth Facilities for boys and for girls. These facilities accommodate the young people from the SOS Children's Village who are doing vocational training or continuing their schooling.

The move to the SOS Youth House is the first step towards independence. In 1999, an SOS Social Centre was built on the site of SOS Children's Village Daegu. The existing SOS Kindergarten moved into this building, which also houses an Educational Therapy Centre. This centre offers therapy for up to 80 children with psychological and behavioural problems.
