SOS Children's Villages India's Community Outreach Programmes
| Since 2002, SOS Children's Villages India has been supporting hundreds of children in need with its community outreach programmes. These children from near the SOS Children's Village come to the SOS Children's Village for around four hours each day where they receive two hours of informal education, a nutritious meal and the chance to play, care-free, with the other children. |

The main goal of the programmes is to give help to those children who do not even receive the most basic food, and who have no chance of going to a proper school. The first such community outreach programme was started in 2002 in SOS Children's Village Greenfields, in a suburb of New Dehli supporting 60 children, whose parents work in the quarry.
Since then, the number of children being looked after by these SOS Community Outreach Programmes in India has grown to over 1,000. The need is much greater: by the end of 2004, the number of children being helped will have risen to 1,500.

- Many more children will have access to education and daily meals, having the chance to play without worries, at least a for short time
- These children will be prepared for entering the official school system, receive a minimum basic education
- These children will receive the same opportunities in their development as other children
- Medical care and supplies will be provided for the physical and psychological development of the children
- Parents and communities can be involved in the projects and be motivated to help
Community outreach programmes in five Indian SOS Children's Villages
Your support will benefit the community outreach programmes in one of the following five SOS Children's Villages in India:
SOS Children's Village Bhimtal
The village, built in 1979, is situated some 300km north of New Dehli with an affiliated school, open to the public, a social centre and medical centre. 40 children in need receive here meals and basic education as part of the community outreach programme.
SOS Children's Village Bhopal
After the poison gas catastrophe in Bhopal in 1984, during which many children lost their parents, SOS Children's Villages set up an emergency relief programme, which was subsequently turned into a permanent facility. The first children moved into SOS Children's Village Bhopal in 1989. The village offers with its outreach programme support to 60 children from poor families in the neighbourhood.
SOS Children's Village Bhubaneshwar
SOS Children's Village Bhubaneshwar was built in the capital of the Orissa province in east India and opened in 1992. The local population is very poor and the country is repeatedly struck by natural catastrophes like tornadoes and floods. With its community outreach programme, SOS Children's Village Bhubaneshwar looks after some 50 children from the community.

SOS Children's Village Guwahati
This SOS Children's Village in the Assam province in north-east India, where many families had been torn apart by serious unrest and where many children lost their families, went into operation in 1988. In Guwahati, an additional 40 children receive meals and basic education.
SOS Children's Village Hojai
SOS Children's Village Hojai is likewise situated in the north-eastern province of Assam, where there was serious unrest in the early 1980s. It has been operational since 1984. 70 needy children from the neighbourhood receive each day a meal and tuition in reading, writing and maths.
