Milla, who also became famous by celebrating each of his goals at the 1990 World Cup with a dance around the corner post, received his official "FIFA for SOS Children's Villages" ambassador certificate at a media event in Leipzig, Germany, ahead of the Final Draw for the 2006 FIFA World CupTM on 9 December 2005.
Former football star Lucas Radebe of South Africa and former Canadian goalkeeper Craig Forrest, two highly committed FIFA/SOS ambassadors, handed Milla his certificate in Leipzig together with Richard Pichler, the Secretary General of SOS Children's Villages, and Federico Addiechi, FIFA's head of Corporate Social Responsibility.
During this media event, Milla, Radebe and Forrest all sported 6 villages for 2006 t-shirts and pledged their support for the work of SOS Children's Villages to the many press representatives who were present.
The man who changed his surname from Miller to Milla in order for it to sound more African, had contacted SOS Children's Villages two weeks prior to the Final Draw, to ask how he could provide his support for 6 villages for 2006 - the official charity campaign of football's biggest tournament.
