Hope and learning restored for 500 children in Gaza

When the temporary educational site in Al-Mawasi, Rafah, became unsafe and inaccessible after it was placed within the active evacuation zones and areas of military operations, SOS Children’s Villages swiftly redirected its emergency education response to a newly identified location within the humanitarian zone of Al-Mawasi, in Khan Younis.
At the new site, six classrooms have been fully equipped and furnished to ensure service continuity, support improved learning outcomes, and help children recover from the disruptions to their schooling. The Ministry of Education has officially approved the location, and efforts are actively underway to further enhance the learning environment.
Coordination with UNICEF is ongoing regarding the approved educational materials, and SOS Children’s Villages actively contributes to the Education Cluster. This platform unites local and global organizations delivering education services in emergencies.

“Establishing an educational space during this difficult and critical time is indeed very important. We feel honoured to continue fulfilling our mission, even in these challenging circumstances”, says Ahlam, a third-grade teacher.
Through collaboration with a local school management committee, SOS Children’s Villages secured a dedicated space for its Emergency Education Project, focused on early childhood and lower primary learners. The six classrooms now serve more than 500 children daily, offering structured learning under the care of trained SOS Children’s Villages teaching staff in Khan Younis.
“I love coming to school every day, especially for the English class. It's easy for me, and I enjoy learning. I come to school with happiness”, says Abdelkareem, a third-grade student.
