Al-Majdara is a recipe famous in Syria and surrounding countries. It is famous because of its delicious taste and high nutritional value. It is also a vegetarian dish.

Ingredients

 

NOTE: Most ingredients can be found at stores like Bulk Barn

  • 4 cups of Bulgur Wheat
  • 2 cups of Lentils
  • 3/4 cup Olive Oil
  • 1/2 cup Sunflower Oil
  • 4 small Onions
  • 2 tsp Salt

 

Instructions

 

  1. Start by putting the Lentil in a pot, filling it halfway with water.
  2. Boil the lentils until they become chewable.
  3. Add the bulgur wheat to the pot with Olive oil and sunflower oil. Mix them together slowly and let them boil on the stove. Add water to fill up to ¾ of the pot.
  4. Meanwhile, chop the onion into slices.
  5. Fry onion slices with olive oil until they turn yellow and become crispy.
  6. Don’t forget to keep checking the boiling Bulgur with the Lentil. Once the water has been absorbed by the Bulgur completely, turn off the stove. Serve the meal in a plate and pour the hot fried onion slices with olive oil over the dish.
  7. You can serve the dish with salad and various pickles.
