Create Your Own Fundraiser

Thursday, June 25, 2015

By organizing a fundraising event, you can play an important role in the work of SOS Children’s Villages. While enjoying yourself at a fun and meaningful event, you will also be contributing to the safe future of children around the world.

To get started, take a look at our Toolkit; it will guide you through the details of fundraising so that your event is a success. We also have a poster that you can download and use to promote SOS Children’s Villages. If you need more promotional material, just get in contact with us (see below) and we can send you a lot more!

Using our step-by-step guide and our other resources will make the organization of your event simple and fun. If you are ever in need of advice, support or help, we are here for you!

1. WHAT

Choose an activity that you love and that will interest a lot of people. If you want to get your community or workplace involved, hold a gala, organize an auction or host a street festival.

No idea is too ambitious or too simple; be as bold and original as you like! We have an “Alphabet of Fundraising Ideas” to get you inspired.

You could also enter a sports charity challenge like climbing a mountain or running a marathon. To find out how, see our challenge events page.

2. WHEN

Choose a date that everyone can make, and don’t forget to allow yourself a good bit of time to prepare. When you have decided on your date, let us know about it. We can send you more resources and give you advice, but give us enough time to help you with your preparations.

3. WHERE

Deciding on a location for your event can be as simple as deciding to host it yourself! If you would like to book it at a venue, remember to ask if they have a charity rate.

4. PROMOTE!

Spread the word: invite your friends, family, classmates, neighbours and colleagues. Use as many ways as you can to get the word out: use social media as well as the posters and flyers that we can send you. Don’t forget to thank your guests for taking part in your charity initiative.

5. ONLINE FUNDRAISING

If you also collected cash or cheques, you can send us the money online or by mail. Of course, we’d also love to hear about your event and see the pictures you have. Good luck!

THANK YOU!

We greatly appreciate the hard work that our fundraising volunteers put towards creating successful and enjoyable events that both raise money and inspire others to support SOS Children’s Villages.
