SOS Children's Villages in Kaarina
Kaarina is a friendly little city with a population of around 20,000 and is not far from the town of Turku. Its location on the coast and its many green areas mean that it has a very pleasant atmosphere. Its central location and diverse landscape make Kaarina a perfect environment for children and young people to grow up in. There are several secondary schools, two high schools and two vocational training schools. Kaarina has a lot to offer in terms of education and leisure activities and also benefits from the fact that it is located near Turku.
Construction work began on SOS Children's Village Kaarina in August 2002 and was completed after just 14 months in October 2003. Up to 50 children can live in the eight family houses. The first children moved into their new homes in December 2003. The village also has a community house, houses for the village director and caretaker, a playground, a sports area and ample room for many different activities. It is located very close to a small bathing lake and about half a kilometre from the sea.
