The striker, who made his international debut at Euro 2000, was officially presented as a "FIFA for SOS Children's Villages" ambassador at the "Oscar del Calcio" gala organised by the Italian Players' Association (AIC) in Milan. However, as he was not present at the gala, he is scheduled to receive his ambassador's certificate at a later date.

Totti joins a list of four Italians supporting 6 villages for 2006 in the role of a FIFA/SOS ambassador, which includes footballers Fabio Cannavaro and Christian Vieri, as well as former star referee Pierluigi Collina.

In 2001, Totti helped AS Roma win the Italian Serie A championship, while at the "Oscar del Calcio" in Milan he was awarded a special prize for the best goal of the 2004/2005 Italian football season.
