The Governor General is happy to lend her general endorsement to the charitable work SOS Children's Villages does on behalf of orphaned and abandoned children in over 130 countries. Prior to becoming Governor General, the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé was both a patron and a founder of SOS Children's Villages in Canada. The Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc was the first Governor General to serve as patron in 1995, to be followed by the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson in 1999.
"Everyone in SOS Children's Villages Canada is honoured and excited by this announcement. Her Excellency's patronage demonstrates wonderful support and recognition of our charitable work among society's most vulnerable: orphaned and abandoned children”, comments Michael von Herff, SOS Canada's volunteer President and Chair of the Board of Directors.
