The Children's Champion cares about children's lives and works to improve their well-being. The Champion is an empathetic person who is always willing to fight to make the world a better place for the vulnerable, particularly young girls and women.

“I can’t stand by and do nothing”. This quote sums up Maria’s attitudes today. Having lived at SOS Children's Villages in Indonesia, Maria has a unique perspective on the importance of ensuring children, especially girls, have a safe and loving home. Today, Maria works with victims of human trafficking to ensure that they have the support they need to rebuild their lives. Maria is a champion for children and marginalized women, and it is because of this that she received the SOS Children's Villages Award in 2018. “My message to all children around the world: keep fighting to fulfill your dreams. Don’t let your past hold you back from achieving a brighter future.”
