It is with great sadness to share that George Fierheller passed away on March 12, 2020. He was an incredibly caring and generous person who shaped our organization as a member of our board, donor and trusted advisor.

As an accomplished business leader, founding president and CEO of Cantel and former senior executive at Rogers, he brought a strong sense of vision and commitment to his extensive charitable giving.

He was an inspiring philanthropist who saw the importance of supporting local and global causes that furthered the well-being of children and communities. It was his love of family and helping those less fortunate that connected him deeply to SOS Children’s Villages’ mission — a loving home for every child.

Mr. Fierheller joined the SOS Children’s Villages Canada board in 2008 and played a pivotal role in strengthening our organization, helping us provide children in need with a safe home and loving family.

As he received many honours and awards for his service to his community, including the Order of Canada, he always remained a humble champion of SOS Children’s Villages Canada for over 10 years. He introduced many of his fellow philanthropists to our international work, and highlighted the value of helping young people in the greatest need create a better future for their families, communities and countries.

We are so grateful to have known Mr. Fierheller and to have been part of his legacy of helping others.

He will be greatly missed and we send our most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
