Gizal, 22, lives with his three siblings at SOS Children’s Villages Jamaica and works as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist at a high school. Growing up, he faced several challenges, but SOS Children’s Villages provided him with the support he needed, including his education, from primary school to community college.

Without SOS Children’s Villages’ help covering my school fees, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I was motivated to join the YouthCan! program because I wanted to build a better future for myself and gain access to opportunities that would allow me to achieve my dreams. One of my main career goals has always been to become an IT Project Manager, and SOS Children’s Villages has helped me stay on track toward achieving that.

Gizal gained invaluable skills by attending budgeting and resume writing workshops, while other training sessions helped him build confidence in presenting himself professionally. The outcome of the Youth! Can program left him feeling more prepared for the workforce.

The resume writing workshops were particularly beneficial, as they equipped me with the knowledge to create a professional, business-standard resume and directly contributed to securing my current position. Additionally, SOS Children’s Villages provided funds to help cover work-related expenses, ensuring I had what I needed to succeed in my role.

Looking ahead, Gizal aims to transition smoothly to independent living and continue working toward his ultimate goal of becoming an IT Project Manager. With the skills he has developed, he feels more prepared than ever to achieve that dream.

SOS Children’s Villages empowered me to unlock my potential and realize my aspirations. With the right support, we can all thrive and become the best versions of ourselves. SOS Children’s Villages changes lives, and I am living proof of that.
