Preparing for the Children

SOS Children’s Villages Canada is pleased to report that there has been great progress at the “All Canadian funded” SOS Children’s Village in Ondangwa.

With the New Year well underway SOS staff in Namibia continue to prepare for the arrival of the children.

While the Village is not officially open as of yet, it has passed the first inspection by Namibia’s Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.  The second and final inspection of the 12 family homes is scheduled for the end of March 2009.

Meanwhile, the furniture for the homes has been bought and the SOS mothers have moved in and are eager to welcome the children into their new homes.

The Kindergarten has been inspected, and it is now open.  Teachers are already holding class, educating many children from the community.

This first “All Canadian funded” SOS Village will provide shelter and a caring family environment for 120 orphaned or abandoned children - children who had no home, no family and no hope for the future. Thanks to your support, these children will now have a place to call home and the very best in health care and education.

Our campaign to raise $1 million to fund the 3 year operating costs of
“The Green Family – SOS Children’s Village, Ondangwa” continues.  We are happy to report that we are half way there with $500,000 in donations and committed pledges.
