Statement: Recent changes for SOS Children’s Villages in Canada

SOS Children’s Villages British Columbia was an independent non-profit organization registered and operating in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It had been associated with the global SOS Children’s Villages federation through an affiliation agreement with SOS Children’s Villages Canada. The agreement expired January 31, 2024.

 

The Board of Directors of the organization formerly known as SOS Children’s Villages British Columbia has decided not to renew their organization’s affiliation with SOS Children’s Villages Canada and therefore also with the global SOS Children’s Villages federation. SOS Children’s Villages Canada has been notified of and accepts this decision.

 

The conclusion of the affiliation agreement with SOS Children’s Villages Canada resulted in the loss of the right to use the SOS Children’s Villages name and any related trademark by the former SOS Children’s Villages British Columbia as of February 1, 2024. While the former SOS Children’s Villages British Columbia is no longer a member of the SOS Children’s Villages federation, there may be a transition period while it undergoes its rebranding process. Questions regarding the new brand name and the future of operations and programs provided by the successor organization should be directed to their Board of Directors.

 

At SOS Children’s Villages, our priority is always the wellbeing of the children, young people and families that we support. We wish for a smooth transition for the children and families that were in the former SOS Children’s Villages British Columbia’s care to their successor organization.

 

Donors who have chosen to support the former SOS Children's Villages British Columbia through SOS Children’s Villages Canada previously are being contacted to help them redirect or cancel their donations.

 

Advocating for and protecting the rights of children globally is at the heart of what we do. SOS Children’s Villages Canada is continuing to evaluate how we can meaningfully engage in programs that support vulnerable children and families in Canadian communities.
