The SOS Children's Village is situated in the small town of San Ignacio, about 225 km south of the country's capital, Asunción. It was built on an 11-acre site in the town centre and consists of ten family houses where up to 90 children can find a new home, the village director's house and an administration building.
There is also an SOS Kindergarten with four classrooms, an administration area, a kitchen and a dining hall.
Up to 100 children from the SOS Children's Village and its neighbourhood can be looked after at this kindergarten.
For youngsters from the SOS Children's Village, two SOS Youth Facilities were set up in 1998. Young people who are doing higher education or vocational training share several flats. Moving to an SOS Youth Facility is usually the first step towards an independent life outside the SOS Children's Village.
SOS Medical Centre San Ignacio is run as a mother-and-child clinic. Up to 25,000 people a year can be treated there. The centre consists of five examination rooms and has 38 beds for adult patients and 24 beds for infants. In addition, there is a laboratory, a pharmacy, a delivery room, an operating theatre for minor surgery, an x-ray and ultrasound lab, and a ward with three incubators and two heated beds for prematurely born babies
