Maple Syrup and Ice Cream

To say thank you for welcoming me into their home, I decided to cook the family a Canadian meal and dessert. One of my children’s favorite dinners is sweet and sour chicken that I make with soy, honey and maple syrup. My family has dessert after most dinners - something sweet and healthy Amanda Martinez having a Canadian dinner with the SOS familysuch as fruit and a treat on the weekend. Here in Namibia this is not the case so I wanted to surprise the family after dinner with some homemade chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.

Only one problem, the grocery store I went to didn’t sell soy sauce or chocolate chips. I found a sweet chili sauce that I substituted for soy sauce and the children loved it.

But, who knew finding chocolate chips would be so difficult? Instead of creating more heat in the house by baking, I decided ice cream was the perfect alternative. The children never get ice cream, so it was heartwarming to see the joy on their faces as they slurped it up!
