The following is a report from Shubha Murthi, International Director Region Asia, on the SOS Relief Camp and Child Care Space, Kavre:

This morning I visited an SOS Relief Camp which is set up close to a hospital.

Over 120 people are currently living in tents here as they have no place to go to. Many of them have sustained injuries, but can be treated as out-patients. While doctors treat the physical wounds, SOS Mothers and the young people from the Youth Facility at SOS Children’s Village Kavre offer emotional support and strength to the victims.

It was heartening to see how the young people cared for the victims and were serving food to all those affected. The outdoor kitchen was neat and clean and the serving was orderly.

I asked Pushpa, one of the SOS youth volunteering at the camp, why she was there. ‘’I want to help these people who have lost everything. We are lucky in SOS as our houses are intact and my mother, brothers and sisters are all safe and we are together, but they have nothing. I cannot do much except helping to serve the food that mother has prepared and be good’’.

Simple yet a powerful message. I left the camp feeling extremely proud of the youth. I could not help but say THANK YOU to the Mothers for imparting such values

Shubah also recorded the devastation in the streets in Nepal, watch the video here:
