I am Grace*. I am 15 years old and come from a family of six children. SOS Children’s Villages came into my family’s life when my parents could no longer take care of us and we were struggling to survive.

We used to go without food and we were not in school regularly because our family had very little money. We would sleep on the floor and cover ourselves with one torn bed sheet. I thought I would never finish school or live in a house that didn’t flood every time it rained.

For three months, we were left to fend for ourselves when our mother went to find work in another city. My older sister had to drop out of school to find work and my brother and I attended school irregularly to help out at home.

When SOS came into my life, it changed completely. We were given food, a better home and the chance to go to school again. I was very excited that I was going to start my schooling again.

I have been able to complete primary school thanks to SOS Children’s Villages. I want to further my education and become a doctor so I can help other vulnerable children and women.
