The first children moved into SOS Children's Village Viet Tri in 1999. The SOS Children's Village is situated in the centre of Viet Tri City, the capital of Phu Tho Province. Viet Tri City is approximately 80 km northwest of Hanoi. SOS Children's Village Viet Tri consists of 15 family houses, staff accommodation and the necessary administration and service area.
It has its own SOS Kindergarten, where up to 190 children can be taught in six group rooms. An SOS Hermann Gmeiner School offers primary and secondary education. With its 25 classrooms, laboratories, a library and a canteen, the school has a capacity of 1,000 students.
The SOS Vocational Training Centre, which was opened in 2005, offers training for up to 300 young people. In addition to various crafts, students can attend IT and English classes. The centre consists of ten classrooms, six workshops, a library, a canteen, an administration and service area and accommodation for 75 participants. The school, kindergarten and training centre are all attended by children and youngsters from the local community.
There is also an SOS Youth Facility at Viet Tri. Young people usually move from the SOS Children's Village to an SOS Youth Facility when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. With the support of qualified youth workers, the young people develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions.
